この度、ギャルリー東京ユマニテでは大阪を拠点に木彫の幻想的な作品を発表する大平弘の個展を開催いたします。

大平は1961年生まれ。グラフィックデザインの仕事をメインに活動し、朝日広告賞、毎日広告デザイン賞などの各部門で受賞するなど活躍しています。その傍ら、ヒノキ材を素材に幻想的で中性的な木彫を発表してきました。

大平はグラフィックデザインの表現素材選びを、木彫の材料、素材選びに重ね合わせたのが、この仕事をするきっかけになったと言います。ヒノキ材の少し湿った手触り、その香りを身近に感じながら、カッターナイフを使い素材と対峙し、新しいかたちを産み出す行為。大平はこれらの木彫作品を作ることで、グラフィックデザインという別の仕事とのバランスを取っているようです。

今回、ギャルリー東京ユマニテでは5年ぶりの新作展となります。木のぬくもりと静謐な時間に満たされた大平の作品。この機会に是非ご高覧下さい。

Galerie Tokyo Humanité is pleased to announce an exhibition of OOHIRA Hiroshi's new artworks. This is Oohira's first exhibition in five years in our gallery.

Oohira (b. 1961) lives and works in Osaka, and is a graphic designer who received several design awards including Asahi Advertising Award and Mainichi Advertisement Design Competition. Besides his profession, Oohira uses Japanese cypress to create wooden sculptures that has a fantastical and epicene atmosphere.

Oohira started to make these sculptures as materials for his graphic design works. Using a cutter knife, he carves a piece of cypress to create a new form while feeling and smelling the material. Oohira seems to balance himself by working on both sculptures and the graphic design.
